Description

Women at Work – Under Construction

In this collaborative performance lasting five days, I worked together with five women, war refugees: Fazila Efendic, Zlatija Efendic, Hatidza Verlasevic, Munira Mandzic and Amira Tihic. We embroidered patterns onto the scaffolding of the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was then under reconstruction. In this way, folklore (our embroidery) merged with the artistic treasures in the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, just like the ancient and recent history of our country. At the same time, a relationship between ‘male’ work (on the scaffold) and ‘female’ handiwork was publicly established.
