“Road Movie” follows the path of the artist Maja Bajevic from her childhood until today, but in reverse order – secure to the childhood home. The road goes from Paris and Berlin, where she now lives, to Munich, where she grew up, via Zurich, where she lived for a year, then to Austria and Slovenia to Pula in Croatia, where her parents have a summer apartment and finally to Sarajevo where she was born. The images tell more than words: The splendor of Paris, city of light, passes into the post-war ruins and minefield landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In a café in Paris with her best friend Maja speaks about the upcoming trip. From the dialogue, the viewer gets first information about the project. It’s a journey in which she come to terms with her time and biography.
The stops on the trip are defined, but the paths to the stations, the duration of her stays and the encounters she will have are uncertain.

L’artiste plasticienne et vidéaste Maja Bajevic est une touche-à-tout nomade : elle a vécu plusieurs vies à travers l’Europe. Dans ce document inclassable, elle aborde frontalement son passé d’apatride par le biais un voyage qui tient autant de la performance que du retour aux sources. Étape par étape, elle y retrace son parcours géographique en sens inverse, en laissant une grande place au hasard : depuis Berlin, elle se rend à Paris – où elle a fait les Beaux-Arts – puis à Zurich, où elle a vécu un an, et à Munich, la ville qui l’a vue grandir.
Après une traversée de l’Autriche et de la Slovénie jusqu’à Pula en Croatie, où ses parents avaient une maison de vacances, le voyage s’achève à Sarajevo, qui l’a vue naître en 1967. Les images qu’elle capture en chemin disent bien plus que les mots : les lumières de Paris, les paysages d’ex-Yougoslavie portant encore les stigmates de la guerre… À chaque arrêt, l’artiste dresse des portraits improvisés d’habitants, de vieux amis, qui lui parlent des rapports entre Est et Ouest, du passé communiste, des crises du capitalisme, des frontières de l’Europe. Autant de personnages qui donnent vie à ces lieux de mémoire en leur conférant une couleur sociale et politique.
